I played trumpet in the Lafayette High School Symphonic Band. What I have of the band on record is three discs — two concerts from my school years, and the night we played the Midwest Clinic in Chicago. All of it streams below.

Disc 3 — The Midwest Clinic · Chicago

Midwest Clinic — December 22, 1988

The Midwest Clinic was the biggest stage a high school band could stand on, and in December 1988 the band stood on it. Eleven pieces, played under our director, Patrick W. Finkbeiner, with guest conductors Ray C. Cramer and Jack W. White. The disc came back to me years later with no titles on it — just Track 1 through Track 12. The names below were rebuilt from the printed program and my own ear, nearly forty years on. The Bach plays in two parts because that is how the disc cut it.

How these recordings reached this page: the original discs are mine, somewhere — an attic here or there, and I have not touched one in years. These copies came from Robert Brown, who played trumpet beside me in that band, worked the equipment crew, and shared the captain's job with me. I asked him for them a few years back, and he gave them freely. Later I lost track of them and asked him again, but by then he had lost track of his own. I found them once more in a Dropbox I had not opened since my field days, while I was building FleetSheet. So the thanks go to Robert — he held onto them when I didn't, and he shared them when I asked. Composers are credited on every piece. If I have a title wrong, the mistake is mine, not the band's.
