The Junk Drawer
Every house has one. This is mine.
The name
jaiou — five letters, four of them vowels, every vowel but E lined up behind the J. Picked because it's easy to say, easy to spell, and hard to misunderstand. The look-alike neighbours were priced at $100,000 and $300,000; this one cost a registration fee.
Pronunciations on record: Hi-yo (the owner's own, after a day of living with it — no J up front, and the O long as in dough: Hi-yo.com), JAY-ow (the original house standard), Jay-oh, Jay-u, Hi-o, Hi-ow, Hi-u, Jay-yOU, bAIt-hOUr, bAIt-dOUgh, and JAlepeño-tOUgh. Nobody can tell you you're wrong — nobody else knows either.
